Best Education Grants

The Owen Family Foundation Grant supports charitable organizations primarily in East Texas and the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, focusing on health, education, human services, and religious initiatives. Organizations must have a 501(c)(3) status and past funding is required for Twin Cities applicants. The foundation is committed to promoting philanthropy and ensuring access to funding for eligible charities, while maintaining a non-discriminatory policy.

The Hesed Foundation Grant supports charitable initiatives that promote social justice through Tzedakah and gemilut hasadim, which emphasize justice and loving kindness. This private foundation focuses on enhancing the welfare of underrepresented communities, particularly in the Boston area, NYC, and Northern California. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status, and the foundation prioritizes projects related to youth, education, health, and community building.

Community Investment Fund - Grant County (NM)

Community Investment Funds (CIFs) have been established in communities near our operations in Colorado, New Mexico and southeastern Arizona. The CIFs engage community leaders in cultivating and assessing community projects that address identified community priorities (developed at Community Partnership Panels), and allow them to allocate Freeport-McMoRan Foundation funds to programs and projects that encourage a strong focus on local capacity-building, community development and sustainability.

Each CIF is governed by a committee of 7 to 10 community representatives as well as two company representatives. The committee reviews all proposals and determines which projects best address the community’s priorities.

Applications must align with one of the established Community Priorities and Focus Area for your community. In addition, they must deliver one of the identified Community Outcomes for your community. 

Focus Areas

Education and Workforce Development:

The following are examples of the types of programs we seek in support of the Education & Workforce Development priority and goals.

• PK-12:
  • Professional development programs for teachers and/or school administrators
  • Student preparation, incentive or other programs that drive achievement /performance and matriculation (including early childhood)
  • Classroom equipment or supplies that are proven to drive achievement /performance and are tied to a program or training/professional development
  • Programs that remove barriers or address problems related to lack of performance
  • Programs that engage parents in supporting their student’s achievement in reading, math or the pursuit of graduation and/or enrollment in higher education
  • Research studies, surveys or other activities to identify gaps and needs
• Higher Education:
  • Student counseling or advising services that help students navigate the process of enrollment in a higher ed program
  • Programs that increase access / remove barriers to enrollment or the pursuit of higher ed
  • Teacher/school administrator or counselor training needed to fully understand the higher education landscape, what is available to students and how to access it
  • Student preparation, awareness, incentive or other campaigns or efforts that drive enrollment and attainment
  • Research studies, surveys or other activities to identify gaps and needs

Economic Opportunity:

The following are examples of the types of programs we seek in support of the Economic Opportunity priority and goals.

• Small Business Development:
  • Programs that provide training or skill-building to entrepreneurs on start-up or growth
  • Access to capital programs
  • Other support services that drive start-up, expansion or retention
  • Research studies, surveys or other activities to identify gaps and needs among small business owners
• Affordable Housing:
  • Loan funds or other resource programs that help families access housing options or make housing more affordable for them
  • Housing improvement programs that allow families to stay in safe, quality housing
  • Research studies, surveys or other activities to identify gaps, needs or viable models
• Other Economic Opportunity:
  • Programs that provide transportation to health, education, recreation or other critical activities
  • Programs that increase the availability of and access to quality healthcare facilities and services
  • Projects that create or improve parks or other recreational activities
  • Projects that improve or eliminate blight or beautify high traffic areas in the community
  • Restoration of lands for habitat or public use
  • Projects that improve river or waterway health

Capacity and Leadership:

The following are examples of the types of programs we seek in support of the Resiliency, Capacity and Leadership priority and goals.

• Programs that provide leadership or other skills for staff, board, volunteers or other community constituents to improve organizational or community performance.
• Organizational self-assessment or diagnoses activities to determine gaps and needs.
• Efforts to develop leadership succession plans that protect and prolong organizational effectiveness.
• Planning initiatives to evaluate, identify and/or consider supports needed to weather future economic disruptions (commodities market or global economy downturns, health pandemics, technological disruptors to the future of jobs/economies, etc.)
• Programs, training or other efforts that aid organizations in understanding the broader social context of which they are part and how they can collectively mobilize to address community needs and create resiliency.
• The development of leadership networks as a tool for transformative social change and amplifying impact across social systems or issues.
• Projects to increase citizen engagement in solving or addressing community challenges or opportunities.

This philosophy includes securing and maintaining our social license to operate and delivering transformation through robust stakeholder engagement and consultation, social investment, and impact evaluation. 

The Niagara Area Foundation Grant, established in 2000, aims to bridge the philanthropic gap in Niagara County. It focuses on funding projects that enhance youth development and environmental education. In 2025, the Foundation will accept applications that positively impact the community, emphasizing youth enrichment and ecosystem health. This grant presents an opportunity for organizations to contribute to meaningful community development and foster a vibrant, equitable future for Niagara County residents.

The Garman Family Foundation Grant, administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, focuses on enhancing mental health, physical wellness, and education, particularly for women and children. With two annual cycles, it supports organizations in Western New York that hold a 501(c)(3) status. Applications are limited to one grant per year, prioritizing impactful initiatives. However, certain funding areas, such as higher education scholarships and political activities, are excluded from consideration.

The McMurry Foundation Grant, established in 1998, focuses on enhancing the well-being of communities in Wyoming, particularly in Natrona County. It supports a range of initiatives, including education, health services, and the arts, aimed at fostering innovation and self-sufficiency among local organizations. The Foundation provides funding for both new and established programs to create lasting community impact while adhering to values of excellence and compassion.

The Abell-Hanger Foundation Grant supports charitable, educational, and benevolent projects that enhance community welfare in West Texas. Eligible organizations can apply by submitting a Pre-Proposal Questionnaire if they haven't received funding recently, or a Letter of Intent if they have. The foundation prioritizes projects that align with its mission and serves the local community, while also maintaining strict eligibility criteria to ensure proper funding allocation.

The Alice E. and Joseph C. Blewett Foundation Grant supports charitable organizations, primarily in Dallas, Texas, focusing on education, arts, health, and human services. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) exempt to qualify. The foundation places a strong emphasis on local community engagement, aiming to enhance educational and cultural opportunities for youth. While there are no strict geographic limitations, preference is given to initiatives that align with the Blewetts' legacy of civic involvement and support for community welfare.

Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) offers Transom Grants to enhance community health, education, and public safety across the greater New Orleans region. These grants, starting at $50,000, support initiatives that promote wellness and development in local organizations. BCM seeks tax-exempt entities and governmental organizations to apply, excluding capital projects or general operating support. With a focus on improving quality of life, BCM aims to foster a healthier community through strategic partnerships and funding.

The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation Grant supports charitable, religious, and educational organizations focused on improving the lives of underprivileged individuals. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $50,000, often requiring a challenge or match. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt under IRS codes and located within specific Florida counties. However, requests from primarily government-funded institutions or for certain excluded purposes, such as individual scholarships or operating expenses, are generally denied.

The Cooper Foundation Grant supports non-profit organizations in Nebraska, especially in Lincoln and Lancaster County. It prioritizes innovative ideas and sustainable organizations across various sectors, including arts, education, and human services. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) entities and public institutions. Funding is available for program support and capacity building, while the foundation does not support individuals, businesses, or operational deficits. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the foundation before applying.

The Dr. G. Clifford and Florence B. Decker Foundation offers grants over $5,000 to support charitable organizations focused on education, medical research, and cultural services for Broome County residents. Applications require a preliminary meeting and are accepted at specified deadlines. Grants under $5,000 can be submitted anytime. The foundation does not fund individuals, endowments, or operating expenses, instead directing resources to innovative projects that enhance self-sufficiency.

The Annual Community Commitment Grants, managed by the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois, have been empowering nonprofit organizations since 1972. With a focus on sustainable impact, these grants support projects in arts, education, health, and more. Each proposal is evaluated based on its potential community value and strategic vision. By fostering collaboration and addressing local needs, the foundation aims to make a lasting difference in east central Illinois.

The Ball Foundation Grants support nonprofit organizations in U.S. communities, focusing on recycling, disaster relief, and STEM education. In 2023, the foundation contributed significantly to these areas, ensuring sustainable practices and community resilience. Eligible entities include 501(c)(3) organizations and accredited educational institutions. The foundation prioritizes impactful projects and excludes funding for discriminatory practices or individual endeavors. This commitment fosters a brighter future through enhanced education and support during crises.

The Fifth Third Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area, focusing on education, arts, community development, and health services. It aims to enhance community vibrancy and provide opportunities, supporting various funding interests from several benefactors. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in Cincinnati, Dayton, or Northern Kentucky. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that empower women, support children, and promote environmental conservation, among other charitable purposes.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation's Community Giving Program supports local non-profits that enhance the lives of Coral Gables residents. Eligible organizations must address key focus areas including arts, education, historic preservation, and social services. Grants are awarded based on relevance to the community and the potential impact of the proposed projects. Interested organizations should submit a Letter of Inquiry to begin the application process.

The Summit Foundation Grant aims to support various community needs in the Summit area, focusing on education, health, arts, and assistance for individuals with disabilities. The foundation encourages local nonprofits to apply for competitive grants to fund specific programs and initiatives that enhance community welfare. Eligibility requires organizations to be tax-exempt and serve Summit area residents. However, the foundation does not fund general operating support or religious programs. The goal is to create a positive impact on local communities.

The Woods Charitable Fund Grant supports diverse initiatives in Lincoln, Nebraska, focusing on areas like arts, civic engagement, education, and human services. The Fund invites innovative proposals that foster community growth, enhance cultural experiences, and promote social equity. Special consideration is given to projects addressing the needs of underrepresented populations and integrating new Americans into the community. Organizations must adhere to specific eligibility criteria and submit applications after completing a Letter of Intent.

The Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Fund Grant supports organizations in southeastern Pennsylvania, focusing on community needs in Delaware County. Grants are awarded in areas such as medical, educational, cultural, arts, and human services. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) exempt and provide a complete project budget. Average grant sizes range from $5,000 to $25,000, with no multi-year funding allowed. The foundation emphasizes responsive grant-making to adapt to local needs.

The Livonia Community Foundation Grant supports 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations serving Livonia residents. The Foundation, a certified charitable organization, promotes community resources, cultural interests, and welfare programs. Contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible and help fund various charitable, educational, and recreational projects. By investing assets conservatively, the Foundation ensures a sustainable return to support its mission and commitments, enhancing the quality of life in Livonia through strategic funding.

The Marshfield Area Community Foundation provides Community Grants to support various projects in education, arts, culture, healthcare, and social services within its service area. These grants are awarded annually through a competitive process and aim to address the evolving charitable needs of the community. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and other IRS-approved entities. The Foundation is committed to connecting caring individuals with impactful causes to enhance the quality of life in Marshfield.

The Collins Foundation, established by William and Ruth Collins, supports charitable, educational, and religious causes in Boulder County, Colorado. With an average grant size between $2,000 and $7,500, the foundation awards 10 to 15 grants annually, totaling around $80,000 in yearly giving. Applications are accepted year-round, with a deadline of November 30 for review at the January grant meeting. Eligible organizations must be public charities under IRC section 501(c)(3) serving Boulder County residents.

The Val A. Green and Edith D. Green Foundation provides grants to charitable organizations serving the community in Utah, focusing on healthcare, medical research, education, and community projects. Only public charities with 501(c)(3) status can apply, and preference is given to local charities along the Wasatch Front. Applications must be resubmitted annually, and grants are not available for foreign recipients or political groups.

The Mullick Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations focused on education, community impact, culture, and health. Based in Saline, Michigan, it aims to build intergenerational pathways to success. Organizations must be tax-exempt public charities under Section 501(c)(3) to apply. The board reviews inquiries quarterly, potentially inviting promising applicants for further discussions. This grant offers a unique opportunity for nonprofits to enhance their impact in the community.

The Keystone Savings Foundation Grant supports non-profit organizations in Lehigh Valley, focusing on education, health services, arts, community development, and economic growth. Grants under $25,000 are reviewed quarterly, with funding for programs, operations, and capital projects. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations within specified counties and can only apply once per year. Ineligible projects include fundraising events and salary support. The Generous Acts Grant Program, backed by the Adirondack Foundation, supports nonprofits and community organizations in the Adirondack Region. Since 2014, it has allocated over $1 million to initiatives addressing basic needs, educational pathways, and economic vitality. Grants range from $2,500 to $30,000, focusing on underserved populations and promoting collaboration for a more inclusive future. Applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with the program's mission to tackle racial and economic disparities.

The CNS Pantex Community Investment Grant Program, administered by the Amarillo Area Foundation, invites nonprofit organizations in the northern Texas Panhandle to apply for funding. This program prioritizes basic needs, education, health, and community development. Eligible applicants must possess 501(c)(3) status and serve local communities. The focus is on projects that address pressing community needs, fostering support for families, youth, and essential services. Proposals from outside the designated counties will not be accepted.
