Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program

A portion of California's tobacco product excise taxes are used to fund research grants. These grants are administered by TRDRP.

As one of three state agencies that work together towards a tobacco-free California, we aim to eliminate commercial tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases and to improve the health and well-being of all Californians. TRDRP works with the California Department of Public Health and Department of Education under the guidance of the Tobacco Education and Research Oversight Committee to ensure collaboration across all sectors of California's tobacco control community.

TRDRP is administered by the Research Grants Program Office (RGPO) at the University of California, Office of the President.

Cornelius Hopper Disparities Supplement

Purpose

The Cornelius Hopper Disparities Supplement (CHDS) supports California community members and student trainees who wish to pursue research training focused on tobacco priority populations. This Supplement award aims to build capacity by broadening the workforce and advancing efforts to end the commercial tobacco epidemic in California.

The term of any resulting contract is anticipated to be for four and a half years, from January 1, 2027 until September 30, 2031.

The Community Foundation of Wabash County offers a wide variety of post-secondary education scholarships to traditional, non-traditional, and graduate students. With nearly 70 different scholarship endowments created through the generosity of our donors, many students are eligible to apply.    

Jennie Wade Scholarship Endowment

More than one hundred years ago, Jennie Wade created a scholarship in her words “to benefit mankind.” This scholarship is made to help young men and women continue their education after high school. Wabash County residents under the age of 21 are selected from among applicants who have done as much as possible in helping themselves obtain an education and whose families are unable to provide an education.

The LP Community Grant, funded by the Louisiana Pacific Foundation, supports local nonprofits and public schools in North America. Ranging from $10,000 to $20,000, grants are determined by community needs and team member requests. Established in 1973, the LP Foundation has contributed over $22 million to enhance education, environmental efforts, and community development. The McInroy-Sheffer People Trust Scholarship supports students from specific Pennsylvania counties—Cumberland, Dauphin, Lycoming, Tioga, or York—who are graduating high school and planning to enroll as freshmen. Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need and intend to study at one of several local colleges in fields like Culinary Arts, Nursing, or Business. Winners receive $75,000 and a year of organizational support from AARP to grow the impact of their nonprofits. Examples of organizational support include data and evaluation, governance and succession planning, fundraising strategy, and prospectus development.

The Ciresi Walburn Foundation supports innovative educational initiatives in Minnesota, focusing on eliminating inequities for children and youth. They partner with K-12 schools and nonprofits to enhance educational opportunities, emphasizing early learning, parent engagement, and diverse educator recruitment. The foundation prioritizes projects that foster equitable access to quality education while strategically investing in transformative ideas. However, past funding does not guarantee future support, and technology expenses are only considered if ancillary to broader proposals.

The Quality Schools Grant Program, funded by the Alaska Department of Education, aims to enhance student achievement by aligning educational practices with Alaska Standards. Schools may apply for $16 per adjusted Average Daily Membership to support various educational activities, including curriculum development and tutoring. The program prioritizes interventions that positively impact students struggling with core subjects like reading, writing, and mathematics, ensuring that all funded efforts contribute to measurable academic improvements.

The City of Carlsbad Community Arts Grants support educational institutions and affiliated groups in enhancing arts education through various programs. Aiming to foster creativity and cultural engagement, this initiative promotes diverse representation and participation in arts.
