Singing for Change supports nonprofit organizations that inspire, empower, and equip people to become more self-sufficient.

Our grantees encourage personal growth among people who are marginalized. They care about the community as a whole, as well as promote the belief that collectively, people can bring about positive change and sustainable self-sufficiency through connected, diverse communities.

Most likely to be considered are organizations that keep their overhead low and collaborate with other groups in their community to find innovative ways of solving a common problem.

Singing for Change (aka SFC Charitable Foundation, Inc.) was created by Jimmy Buffett in 1995, and receives one dollar from each ticket Jimmy sells at his shows. We envision a world where nonprofit organizations, large and small, provide compelling opportunities for individuals to discover their power to make a difference. The foundation promotes work on the forefront of social change - helping people and communities become smarter, safer, stronger, healthier, and whole. 

Singing for Change (SFC) partners with progressive, community-based organizations addressing the root causes of social or environmental problems. We recently narrowed our focus to projects designed to promote self-sufficiency. 

Specifically, we look for groups that are: 

• Working to engage individuals in their communities 
• Helping people realize their full potential
• Creating lasting change in the communities they serve

We will fund operating expenses for those organizations that we feel are accomplishing these goals.

Areas Of Interest:

Children and families: Grants are awarded to programs fostering self-sufficiency and stability. Individual therapy is not funded, nor are therapeutic or recreational camps or wish-fulfillment programs.

Disenfranchised groups: SFC defines these groups as people who have been marginalized in society because of their low levels of skill, education or income, people with disabilities, and people who are homeless. 

Grants range in size from $1,000.00 to $10,000.00.

The Kleberg Foundation: Community Services Grant supports IRS-registered 501(c)(3) organizations and public universities focused on enhancing the quality of life in Kingsville and surrounding areas. Key funding areas include health, education, and social services. The Foundation seeks innovative projects that improve health outcomes, foster educational growth, and provide essential social services for low-income families. Applications from organizations with a history of funding are welcome, while new applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria.

The Perry & Ruby Stevens Charitable Foundation Grant supports qualified non-profit organizations focusing on various charitable purposes, including assistance to disabled persons, treatment for abused women, and support for volunteer firefighting programs. To apply, organizations must submit a Letter of Inquiry and have a minimum of three years of operating history. The Foundation prioritizes grant requests from the Texas Hill Country and aims to address the needs of financially disadvantaged children and young adults.

The Costco Wholesale Charitable Contributions program prioritizes support for children, education, and health services within local communities. Nonprofit organizations seeking assistance must be 501(c)(3) certified and focus on monetary requests. Applications are reviewed within 4-6 weeks, factoring in community needs and collaboration. However, Costco limits grants to 10% of the program budget and typically restricts organizations to one request per fiscal year. They do not fund individuals or direct aid for various specific purposes.

The Corning Nonprofit Grants program supports community-based initiatives in education, human services, and culture. Eligible nonprofits that align with our criteria may apply for funding on a rolling basis. The application window for invited organizations runs from February 10 to September 15. We emphasize local impact within a 20-mile radius of Corning, NY, ensuring that our contributions foster collective growth and engagement in the community.

The Brinker International Charitable Giving Program focuses on giving back to communities through support for kids, hunger, and education. Organizations eligible for funding must be 501c(3) non-profits and submit requests at least six weeks prior to events. The program does not support individuals, political or religious organizations, or explicit discrimination policies. Funding is provided through monetary donations or in-kind contributions like dining certificates.

The Amon G. Carter Foundation, established in 1945, is a Texas non-profit that provides grants to support various fields including arts, education, health, and community services. Focused primarily on Tarrant County, it accepts grant applications year-round, with evaluations occurring three times annually. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) exempt. Notably, the foundation does not fund individuals or projects outside its primary geographic interest. This commitment enhances community quality of life through diverse programs.

The Lola Wright Foundation Grant, established in 1954, focuses on supporting organizations within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Texas, in areas such as children and youth, public health, education, and arts. The Foundation funds qualified public charities (501(c)(3) status) and has specific eligibility criteria, including geographic restrictions. Notably, grants are not available for individual requests or daily operating costs, ensuring funds are directed towards impactful community services.

The Community Foundation of Abilene offers community grants to enhance the quality of life in the Abilene area. Established in 1985, it supports local nonprofit organizations through a flexible funding model, addressing various sectors such as health, education, and community development. Grants range from $5,000 to $35,000, with occasional larger requests considered. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) compliant and serve populations within Taylor County, ensuring impactful community development through strategic funding.

The Community Foundation of Abilene offers the Future Fund Grants to support 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Abilene that serve children and youth. The BNSF Railway Foundation provides grants to enhance community quality of life across 28 states, focusing on educational, cultural, and social service initiatives. With over $150 million contributed since 2000, the foundation emphasizes projects with strong local engagement and BNSF employee involvement. Eligible organizations include public charities, local governments, and tribal governments, while ineligible entities encompass religious organizations and those with discriminatory practices. Priority is given to environmental, health, and cultural projects.

The Special and Urgent Needs Grants provided by the San Antonio Area Foundation aim to offer rapid funding for nonprofits facing unexpected challenges or opportunities. With one-time grants up to $10,000, these grants support organizations to respond to urgent needs that disrupt their operations. Eligible applicants include established 501(c)(3) nonprofits in specific counties, emphasizing fiscal management and service delivery. The Foundation for Southeast Texas Grant supports civic and social projects focusing on arts, education, health, and community development. Grants are awarded annually based on available funds, with a focus on emerging community needs. The Institutional Challenge Grant aims to foster collaborative research by requiring institutions to adapt their policies and enhance capacities for meaningful partnerships. It encourages applications from diverse leadership teams in youth-serving areas, focusing on addressing inequalities in youth outcomes. The grant outlines four key goals: strengthening partnerships, pursuing a joint research agenda, facilitating institutional change, and enhancing collaborative capacities for producing actionable research evidence.

The Skatepark Project Grants aim to support underserved communities in building public, free, concrete skateparks for youth. Eligible applicants include public charities and local agencies committed to designing inclusive spaces. The projects must engage local skaters in planning and fundraising, promote safety, and be open year-round without entry fees. The initiative fosters community involvement and addresses social inequalities, ensuring that all types of skatepark users can benefit from these vital recreational resources.

The Permian Basin Area Foundation offers grants to qualified nonprofit organizations in the Permian Basin and TransPecos regions, addressing various philanthropic purposes including animal services, arts, education, and health.
