Scholarships

The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County provide scholarship opportunities for local students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities and career/technical schools.

Conservation Officers of Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund

The Conservation Officers of Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for Pennsylvania resident undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in a degree program studying the conservation of wildlife and related fields.

Award Type: Single Year. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply in consecutive years.

Dr. Matthew R. Hadley Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Matthew R. Hadley Scholarship Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships awarded to one or more graduating seniors from McKeesport Area, Clairton City, Steel Valley, South Allegheny or East Allegheny High Schools.

Award Type: Single-Year Award

The William Penn Foundation aims to significantly reduce illegal dumping in Philadelphia, targeting a 50% decrease by 2035. This initiative addresses community concerns, particularly among low-income and minority residents, who emphasize the importance of this issue. The Foundation invites proposals focused on diverse strategies, including prevention and education, with a budget of $2.5 million available for funding. Successful projects will align with broader objectives of enhancing community well-being and environmental health.

The William Penn Foundation aims to enhance Philadelphia's urban forest through strategic initiatives that promote equitable tree coverage. With a focus on areas identified in the 2023 Philly Tree Plan, the Foundation encourages innovative projects that address barriers to tree planting, foster community engagement, and advocate for policy changes. By 2035, the goal is to significantly increase the number of trees, particularly in neighborhoods that currently experience a lack of green space, thereby improving residents' quality of life.

Most SouthCoast Community Foundation scholarships are available through our online scholarship portal. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are available through the Universal Application, which automatically pairs eligible students with all available scholarships.

Fall River Chamber Foundation/James T. Waldron Scholarship

The Fall River Chamber Foundation James T. Waldron Scholarship Fund of the SouthCoast Community Foundation was established to provide an annual scholarship award to a South Coast region graduating High School senior(s) attending an accredited two- or four- year college or university.

The Jack B. Fisher Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduates of Stark County high schools. Students must have above average accomplishment in high school and demonstrate financial need.

The Ira G. Turpin Scholar Program Fund was established to assist ethnic minority graduating seniors in Stark County. Special preference will be given to those pursuing a career in law enforcement or the legal profession.

The Community Health Foundation offers a Mini Grant of up to $1,000 to support health and wellness initiatives for residents of Clark or Champaign County, Ohio. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and other public entities that aim to enhance community health. This streamlined application process is designed to empower local organizations in their mission to promote well-being among residents.

The Harry Mestel Memorial Accounting Scholarship Fund

The Harry Mestel Memorial Accounting Scholarship Fund assists students enrolled at an Ohio college or university in their third, fourth or fifth year of accounting studies (pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting) whose permanent address is in Stark County, Ohio. 

This scholarship is renewable.

The Best and Brightest Management Fellowship Program in Colorado aims to connect students with local governments, providing valuable internships and fellowships that enhance their public service experience. Targeting high school and undergraduate students, as well as graduate students in public administration, the program promotes diversity and leadership within communities. By collaborating with universities and municipalities, it ensures that future leaders reflect the demographics of their communities while gaining essential skills for effective governance.

The Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program (HTC) in Missouri incentivizes the rehabilitation of historic commercial and residential structures. Small Projects, which seek under $275,000 in tax credits, allow for significant renovations while adhering to caps based on Qualified Rehabilitation Expenditures (QREs). For instance, a project eligible for a 25% tax credit requires less than $1.1 million in QREs, ensuring broad access for smaller rehabilitation efforts.

The Banfield Foundation's Disaster Relief Grants support nonprofit animal welfare organizations and government agencies affected by natural disasters. Since 2015, the foundation has provided resources to help pets in crisis, including medical supplies, food, and temporary shelter. Grants are also available for organizations assisting those impacted by disasters. Eligible applicants must have 501(c)(3) status and directly help animals and their owners in the U.S., ensuring that pets receive the care they need during emergencies.

The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) is offering the Project SAFE Grant Program to enhance student safety and well-being. The program aims to assist local educational agencies (LEAs) in implementing strategies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, in accordance with CDC guidelines. This initiative is particularly focused on supporting LEAs that face financial penalties from state educational agencies for adopting these necessary health measures, ensuring a safer learning environment.

The PEDIGREE Foundation offers Program Development Grants aimed at enhancing dog adoption rates by supporting shelters and rescues across the U.S. Established in 2008, the foundation prioritizes initiatives such as transport, matching, and foster programs. Funding is available to 501(c)(3) designated organizations committed to improving the quality of care for dogs and ultimately increasing their chances of adoption, ensuring that every dog finds a loving home.

The Petco Love Stories Grant Campaign celebrates the profound impact of pet adoption. Each year, Petco Love and BOBS® from Skechers® award grants to animal welfare organizations that facilitate these life-changing adoptions. Since 2013, over $8 million has been distributed to support these organizations. Pet parents are encouraged to share their unique love stories about their adopted pets, showcasing how their lives have been enriched. Compelling narratives and quality visuals will help submissions stand out.

The Petco Foundation offers grants aimed at animal welfare organizations, focusing on enhancing adoption and medical care initiatives. With a commitment to lifesaving programs, they invest in organizations that demonstrate accountability and significant impact in their communities. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, municipal agencies, and SPCA/humane societies that provide sheltering services. The grant cycle allows for one proposal submission per year, ensuring support for those dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals.

The Traveling Fellowship Program, managed by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), offers mid-career members a unique chance to attend the AOFAS Annual Meeting and visit top research institutions. Participants will enhance their skills by observing surgeries, learning new techniques, and sharing their research experiences. The 2025 program runs from September 8-25, featuring visits to esteemed sites, including the University of South Carolina and the Rothman Institute.

The Petco Love Foundation, previously known as the Petco Foundation, has been dedicated to animal welfare since 1999. With a mission to enhance the lives of pets and their families, they provide significant funding to nonprofit organizations for lifesaving initiatives. The 'Access to Care' program supports spay/neuter clinics and low-cost veterinary services, ensuring that more pets receive essential care. Petco Love remains committed to fostering healthier communities and improving the well-being of pets across the nation.

The Petfinder Foundation's Disaster Response and Recovery Grants provide crucial support to Petfinder members affected by natural disasters. These grants assist organizations in recovering from events like hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods, ensuring that adoptable pets receive necessary care. Eligible applicants must be active Petfinder members and demonstrate a need due to disasters occurring within the past 60 days. The initiative aims to enhance the resilience of shelters and rescue groups in challenging times.

Thome Aging Well Grant Program

As communities navigate rapid shifts in resources, rising housing and living costs, and other emerging challenges, this final round of Thome Aging Well funding aims to assist organizations that are supporting older adults through these uncertain times. These flexible, one-year grants are designed to bolster housing-based programs, services, and supports that safeguard the health, stability, and well-being of older adults during this moment of change.

Award

• Up to $200,000

This funding opportunity aims to provide flexible support to affordable housing organizations and past Enterprise Thome Aging Well grantees to respond to the urgent or emerging needs of their residents or clients with effective solutions. Eligible organizations must serve older adults (aged 55 and older) with lower incomes living in Michigan and Maryland.

Grants will have a one-year period of performance.

The KONG Toy Grant, offered by the Petfinder Foundation in collaboration with KONG, aims to enhance the adoptability of shelter pets by providing enriching toys. This initiative supports animal shelters and adopters throughout North America, helping to keep pets mentally stimulated and happy. By focusing on pet enrichment, the grant seeks to increase the chances of successful adoptions, thereby reducing the euthanasia of adoptable animals. The Urgent Need for Disasters Grant Program assists communities facing immediate challenges due to recent natural disasters. With a budget of $100,000 in 2024, this program provides crucial funds to address urgent needs that threaten community health or welfare. Eligible projects must demonstrate that no alternative financial resources are available, ensuring that support reaches those most in need. This grant reflects a commitment to swift action in times of crisis, enhancing community resilience and recovery.

The Henry K. Peterson Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations providing services to the disabled population of Southwest Iowa. Established to honor Henry K. Peterson, a notable figure in Iowa's legal and civic communities, this foundation awards approximately $10,000 annually to promote impactful philanthropic initiatives. Through its efforts, the Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, fostering community growth and support.

The Health Policy Research Scholars program, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, aims to develop leadership among doctoral students from diverse, nonclinical disciplines. This four-year initiative focuses on aligning research with community health needs, emphasizing equity and collaboration across sectors. Scholars will receive $30,000 annually for up to four years, complemented by mentorship and training. The program targets second-year doctoral students who are committed to influencing health policy and fostering a Culture of Health in their communities.

Westport and Beyond - The Erika Hall Memorial Scholarship

The Erika Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to grant scholarships to Westport High School or Westport residents who graduated from sister schools (i.e., Diman Regional, Bristol County Agricultural, Bishop Connolly, or Bishop Stang High School). All scholarship applicants must be planning on attending a two- or four- year college or university.

The State Traffic Safety Information System Improvements Grant Program in Massachusetts aims to enhance highway safety through data-driven projects. Funded by NHTSA, the program supports the development of software, data reporting enhancements, and training for professionals involved in traffic records. With a total funding of $1,200,000, it seeks to improve data quality and interoperability across state systems and facilitate research on traffic safety trends.

The Child Passenger Safety Education and Assistance Program provides essential support to eligible organizations in Massachusetts by funding car seats for low-income families. Administered by the Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research, this initiative aims to reduce child passenger injuries through education and proper car seat installation by certified technicians. Organizations can apply for grants up to $10,000 to ensure that caregivers are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to secure children's safety in vehicles.
