The Region One Athletic Fund for Individuals Grant supports students in grades 7-11 in the Region 1 School District, enabling them to enhance their athletic skills and experiences. The Fund prioritizes projects that go beyond traditional funding to develop sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline. Eligible applicants include students, teachers, and community members proposing initiatives like coaching, training camps, and equipment purchases. Preference is given to programs benefiting students who intend to remain in the Region 1 schools.

Strategic Leadership Grants: A Call for Housing Proposals

The Community Foundation’s vision to build a vibrant community with great opportunities for all serves as the basis for our values: hope and opportunity, particularly for youth; collaborative community goals and decision-making; and an inclusive community.

In the fall of 2023, the Community Foundation, collaborating with local municipalities and economic development agencies, commissioned a study on Muskegon County’s current needs and opportunities. The study revealed that Muskegon County needs 9,000 housing and rental units across the housing continuum over the next five years to meet demand and stabilize the local housing market. To help increase the availability, accessibility, and affordability of housing, the Community Foundation has committed at least $1M in grants and up to $5M in loans to support local housing efforts.

Housing Grants

Nonprofit organizations, including schools, governmental units, and faith-based organizations, must initiate grant requests. Strategies may include for-profit partners and collaborators.

Priority for grants will be given to suggested projects such as:

• First-time homeowners’ assistance, including home-ownership education
• Developer incentives with a focus on workforce housing (180% AMI)
• Explore options to preserve affordability, such as the creation of a Land Trust
• Work with current landlords to facilitate a transition to homeownership for tenants in good standing
• Work with municipalities to incentivize implementation of zoning best practices and tools to incentivize development
• Invest in supporting seniors in a transition to their next phase of housing 

In addition, the Community Foundation is working collaboratively with leadership from the City of Muskegon Heights as a geographic focus area for investment in publicly owned lands. Grants and loans will be made to projects that meet at least one of the following:

• Purchase and remediate public land and/or blighted properties to prep for development
• Create development packages around publicly owned land in Muskegon Heights to incentivize development
• Support home improvements for neighboring properties
• Support for community listening sessions to create a shared vision around public land development for housing

At least $1,000,000 will be granted over the next few years. We envision that multiple grants will be supported in the $20,000-$50,000 range. Multiyear requests, with phased-out funding over three years, will be considered.

The National Sea Grant Law Center is inviting proposals for the Coastal Resilience Program to research laws and policies addressing coastal resilience challenges such as sea level rise and flooding. With a funding cap of $150,000 over two years, this initiative aims to assess the effectiveness of existing policies and promote informed decision-making in coastal management. Up to two projects will be selected for funding, supporting innovative solutions to enhance community resilience against environmental threats.

The Healthy Tree Canopy Grants for Cities aim to enhance the tree canopy in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Designed for city governments, these grants support projects that complete tree inventories and strengthen urban forestry efforts. Applicants can receive funding between $1,000 and $5,000, with a required match of 25% of project costs. The program seeks to engage communities in tree protection and management, addressing environmental challenges while improving public health and equity.

Siemens Healthineers USA offers sponsorships to support healthcare initiatives across the U.S. They emphasize funding for healthcare organizations and related events, ensuring that requests comply with eligibility criteria. The company prioritizes diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, cardiology, and oncology. Applications must be submitted at least 45 days prior to the event, and funding is not available for sole sponsorships or certain excluded initiatives. The Marion Community Foundation's Community Grants Program aims to address pressing needs in Marion County, Ohio, by providing funding to local nonprofits. This initiative supports projects that enhance food security, health, education, and community development while encouraging innovative solutions to local challenges. Eligible organizations include 501(c)3 nonprofits, public schools, and governmental entities. The foundation seeks to empower nonprofits to propose transformative ideas that foster positive change and collaboration in the community.

Siemens Healthineers supports charitable donations that align with its focus areas, including diagnostic imaging and oncology. They prioritize well-rated organizations that allocate a significant portion of donations to clinical efforts rather than administrative costs. Events must ensure at least 65% of funds go to the intended cause. Local chapters of national nonprofits should coordinate with their national teams for requests, as Siemens typically does not entertain separate local requests.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Virginia Valk Fehsenfeld Scholarship

Open to full time undergraduate students who are Kent County residents studying education, dietetics, nutrition, or human services and have a minimum 3.4 GPA.

The Georgia Civil Money Penalty Reinvestment Funds Grant aims to enhance the quality of care and life for nursing home residents through reinvestment of civil money penalties. Funded projects may include tele-health innovations, training for staff, and support for resident councils. Overview

The Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling Grant aims to enhance Kentucky's recycling infrastructure through efficient projects leveraging limited funds. Established in 2006, this grant program requires a 25% match and prioritizes regional recycling and household hazardous waste management initiatives. By fostering public education and collaboration among local governments, it seeks to develop sustainable practices that address waste management challenges, ensuring a cleaner environment for future generations.
