Determined to become the best grower possible, Mr. Crowder sought to learn everything he could about horticulture. Spanning three decades, Mel worked diligently with orchardists from Yakima to the Canadian border to help them grow the very best apples. As a charter member of the Washington Horticulture Association in 1985, Mr. Crowder was recognized as a leader in the apple industry. He remained active in the industry even after his retirement in 1985 from his position as Operations Manager at Trout, Inc. in Chelan.
