The Henderson family has made Broward County, Florida their home for generations. Because of its deep community roots, the Henderson family has made a commitment to helping improve the condition of children and their families in the region. 

Broward County has over 140,000 young children falling in the birth-to-eight age range. Broward is a very racially and ethnically diverse community and is home to a high number of African American and Hispanic/Latino families. It is also home to a large percentage of first-generation residents from Central and South America and the Caribbean Island nations. The County’s school district is the sixth largest in the nation and serves more than 250,000 children. Broward County Public Schools also delivers Head Start and Early Head Start programming for its youngest students. 

Most childcare in Broward is delivered by private, for-profit businesses. There are also a small number of for-profit and nonprofit childcare centers designed to serve the needs of the whole family. The Foundation partners with a variety of organizations including nonprofit early learning centers, governmental agencies, and other like-minded funders, both public and private.

Mission

The DanPaul Foundation will use its resources to help train teachers and parents in early childhood development, protect children from abuse and neglect, stimulate children's personal social responsibilities, and offer them opportunities for enrichment and growth.

The Foundation will also encourage children to be concerned and informed about the environment and the underprivileged, particularly with regard to clean air and water, and adequate housing and nutrition for all.

Beliefs

The DanPaul Foundation believes that children should have ample opportunities for enrichment in their lives, and thus strives to provide many different ways to enrich and expand children's minds through direct programs and monetary support to organizations doing similar work.

We have provided or currently provide grants related to the following program areas:

• Workshops, Conferences, + Seminars: We strive to offer educational workshops, conferences, and seminars for parents and teachers on topics related to early childhood development.
• Student Scholarships: We aim to help students attending post-secondary education institutions by providing need-based and academic scholarships.
• Scientific Endeavors: We desire to advance scientific endeavors which seek to improve the quality of life for everyone in the world.
• Clean Air + Water: We hope to pass on knowledge and practical life skills to youth regarding their personal responsibility to the environment, teaching them about issues surrounding clean air and water.
• Child Advocacy: We believe in protecting children from abuse and neglect and particularly love to support programs that provide education and assistance to children as well as organizations advocating or caring for vulnerable children.
• Homelessness: We want to encourage young people to take a personal interest in seeing that adequate housing and proper nutrition, especially for the underprivileged and homeless, are available.
• Poverty + Neglect: We seek to help those in poverty as well as educate youth about their responsibility to consider the underprivileged and take care of those most in need of life's basic essentials like adequate housing and proper nutrition.
• Refugee Enrichment: We wish to help refugee youth by supporting programs that provide them enrichment and help them transition to life in a new country.

The DanPaul Foundation provides grants to 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organizations as defined by the IRS. The Foundation is interested in providing funding to programs that directly serve the health, education, development, and welfare of the world's youth.

Grants range from a few hundred dollars up to $15,000 per calendar year.

Mission

The mission of the Hearst Foundations is to identify and fund outstanding nonprofits to ensure that people of all backgrounds in the United States can build healthy, productive and satisfying lives. Through its grantmaking, the Hearst Foundations support well-established nonprofit organizations that address significant issues within their major areas of focus—culture, education, health and social service—and that primarily serve large demographic and/or geographic constituencies. In each area of funding, the Foundations seek to identify those organizations achieving truly differentiated results relative to other organizations making similar efforts for similar populations. The Foundations also look for evidence of sustainability beyond their support.

Whether providing a scholarship to a deserving student, supporting a rural health clinic or bringing artists into schools so children can see firsthand the beauty of the arts, the Foundations’ focus is consistent: to help those in need, those underserved and those underrepresented in society. Since the Foundations were formed in the 1940s, the scale and capabilities of the grant making have changed, but the mission has not.

Culture Grant

The Hearst Foundations fund cultural institutions that offer meaningful programs in the arts and sciences, prioritizing those that enable engagement by young people and create a lasting and measurable impact. The Foundations also fund select programs nurturing and developing artistic talent. Supported organizations include arts schools, ballets, museums, operas, performing arts centers, symphonies and theaters.

Funding Priorities in Culture

In the recent past, 25% of total funding has been allocated to Culture. Organizations with budgets over $10 million have received 60% of the funding in Culture.

The Hearst Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, of which about 80% is directed to prior grantees and about 20% is targeted toward new grantees.

Types of Support

Program, capital and, on a limited basis, general and endowment support

People with Disabilities

The Foundation makes grants to organizations that educate, mentor or otherwise support students with disabilities. It funds scholarships for students with disabilities at each campus of the State University System of Florida as well as schools throughout the United States and Canada that specifically focus on those populations.

Since the early 1990s the Foundation has funded scholarships for students with disabilities at each State University System of Florida campus and has developed close ties with the disability service offices at each of the 12 campuses. The Foundation also provides scholarships for students with disabilities at Gallaudet University. As in other areas of its programing, the Foundation supports early education, which is especially important for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and blind students. Since inception, the Foundation has made an annual grant to Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, and in recent years it has made grants to Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech and Perkins School for the Blind.

The Foundation makes grants to organizations that educate, mentor or otherwise support students with learning differences. Examples of these are Landmark East School, Mount Allison University and Landmark College.

The Foundation also focuses on employment for people with disabilities. Even with good educational qualifications, people with disabilities still have difficulty entering the work force. Therefore the Foundation has developed a portfolio of grants to transition-oriented programs that are designed to help people with disabilities obtain traction in the workplace. These grants are riskier than scholarships but, when they work, often have great social impact. They also resonate with the Foundation’s desire to identify niche areas which may have been overlooked by other educational funders.

JSF Grant Making Strategy

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation makes grants to organizations that help people overcome barriers to higher education. Addressing these barriers enables them to graduate and find good jobs, thereby contributing to and enriching their communities.

The Foundation provides grants for scholarships and other support to nonprofit organizations that serve students with disabilities, students Indigenous to Canada and the United States, and students from low-income families.

What We Fund

We view our grantees as partners and work with them to develop sustainable proposals that will catalyze change and growth in their organization and in the individuals served. Grantee partners are usually required to leverage Foundation grants by obtaining matching funds from other sources. The amount of matching money varies according to the circumstances and is negotiated with the grantee partner in each case.

The Labcorp Charitable Foundation

We believe every person deserves equitable care and education.

In 2020 Labcorp established a private charitable 501(c)(3) foundation to advance our desire to bring quality healthcare access to all by supporting education and our local communities.

Peacock Foundation, Inc. enhances and promotes the good health and  well-being of South Florida’s children and families.

Founded in 1947, Peacock Foundation, Inc.’s mission is to enhance and promote the good health and well-being of children and families through contributions, gifts, and grants to eligible nonprofit organizations located in and/or of significant benefit primarily to residents of Miami-Dade County.

The Board of Peacock Foundation, Inc. meets four times per year to review grant proposals and evaluation reports. Although multi-year grants are made in special cases, our support should not be viewed as a continuing source of funds. The Foundation receives many more requests than available funds to distribute in any one fiscal year.

PNC Foundation

Strengthening and enriching the lives of our neighbors in communities where we live and work.

Vision & Mission

For decades, we have provided resources to seed ideas, foster development initiatives and encourage leadership in nonprofit organizations where imagination and determination are at work enhancing people's lives everyday.

The PNC Foundation's priority is to form partnerships with community-based nonprofit organizations in order to enhance educational opportunities, with an emphasis on early childhood education, and to promote the growth of communities through economic development initiatives.

Foundation Grant

The PNC Foundation supports a variety of nonprofit organizations with a special emphasis on those that work to achieve sustainability and touch a diverse population, in particular, those that support early childhood education and/or economic development.

Education

The PNC Foundation supports educational programs for children and youth, particularly early childhood education initiatives that meet the criteria established through PNC Grow Up Great. Specifically, PNC Grow Up Great grants must:

• Support early education initiatives that benefit children from birth to age five; and
• Serve a majority of children (>50%) from low- to moderate-income families; and
• Adhere to all other standard PNC Foundation guidelines, as outlined on the PNC Foundation website, applicant eligibility quiz, as well as the Foundation policies and procedures; and
• Include one or a combination of the following:
  • direct services/programs for children in their classroom or community;
  • professional development/workforce development for early childhood educators;
  • family and/or community engagement in children’s early learning
• Additional considerations:
  • The grant focus should include math, science, reading, vocabulary development, the arts, financial education, or social/emotional development.
  • The grant recipient, or collaborative partner, should have early childhood education as an area of focus. If the organization’s focus is beyond birth to age five, the specific grant must be earmarked for birth to age five.
  • Incorporate opportunities for PNC volunteers in classroom or non-classroom-based activities.

Economic Development

Economic development organizations, including those which enhance the quality of life through neighborhood revitalization, cultural enrichment and human services are given support. Priority is given to community development initiatives that strategically promote the growth of low-and moderate-income communities and/or provide services to these communities.

  • The PNC Foundation understands the critical need for affordable housing for low-and moderate-income individuals.
  • We are committed to providing support to nonprofit organizations that:
    • give counseling and services to help these individuals maintain their housing stock;
    • offer transitional housing units and programs; and/or
    • offer credit counseling assistance to individuals, helping them to prepare for homeownership.
• Community Development
  • Because small businesses are often critical components of community growth and help foster business development, the PNC Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that
    • offer technical assistance to, or loan programs for, small businesses located in low-and moderate-income areas or
    • support small businesses that employ low-and moderate-income individuals.
• Community Services
  • Support is given to social services organizations that benefit the health, education, quality of life or provide essential services for low-and moderate-income individuals and families.
  • The PNC Foundation supports job training programs and organizations that provide essential services for their families.
• Arts & Culture
  • Support is given for cultural enrichment programs benefitting the community.

Mission

Driven by a philanthropic calling to support marginalized communities throughout the world, the Semnani Family Foundation partners with on-the-ground organizations and leverages its resources in a cost-effective and efficient manner that delivers the maximum benefit.

History

Guided by his grandmother Maliheh’s example and teachings, Khosrow Semnani and his wife Ghazaleh established the Semnani Family Foundation in 1993. The foundation’s first grant was issued through CARE International to an orphanage in Romania that cared for newborns affected by HIV. Over the last few decades, the foundation has continued to build upon its mission to empower the disaffected, partnering with a variety of organizations in different countries who can make the greatest impact.

In addition to its global influence, the Semnani Family Foundation established roots within the state of Utah with the founding of Maliheh Free Clinic in 2005 to provide free healthcare to thousands of uninsured people in the Salt Lake City area.

Grants are made at the Foundation’s discretion based on our current funding strategies focused on housing, jobs and hunger. 

Donation Request

Sharing the adventure of Universal Orlando is an exciting way to help local organizations raise much-needed funds. Universal Orlando primarily donates theme park tickets to qualified nonprofits that educate our youth, strengthen our community and fall under our focus areas.

The Universal Orlando charitable giving program is open only to eligible nonprofit organizations located within the state of Florida. While outreach is considered for organizations within the state of Florida, preference is given to nonprofits based in Central Florida because that’s the heart of our universe. We are happy to review donation requests for qualifying nonprofit organizations for fundraising purposes. We are unable to review applications for corporate sponsorships.

Due to the popularity of Universal Orlando Resort, we are unable to offer hotel accommodations.

Wells Fargo and the Wells Fargo Foundation collaborate with a wide range of nonprofit organizations that align with our strategic funding priorities. We prioritize our funding to activities and programs that have a broad reach and support the needs of underserved communities. We aspire to have a positive impact on the communities we serve by using our financial and volunteer resources and business expertise in collaboration with community organizations to help solve complex societal problems.

Cutler Bay Community Fund

Mission Statement

The Cutler Bay Community Fund was created to support nonprofit organizations that endeavor to improve the life of residents in the Town of Cutler Bay through educational, aesthetic (community beautification), environmental, cultural, social services and other philanthropic programs and services. (Resolution #13-57)

About the Cutler Bay Community Fund

The Town of Cutler Bay established the Cutler Bay Community Fund (Resolution #13-57) in 2013 with the goal of establishing partnerships that will help to improve the quality of life of residents in our community, as well as supporting local nonprofit organizations. The Fund is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that is overseen by a Board of Directors consisting of the current Cutler Bay Mayor and Town Council. Grant awards range between $500 to $2,500 and only one application per organization will be accepted each year.

100% of the funds collected through the community fund are solely used for charitable purposes with priority given to organizations that provide services within the Town of Cutler Bay. The Fund currently has six service categories (priority areas) that direct our grant making; education, aesthetic, environment, culture, social services, and other philanthropic activities.

Cutler Bay Community Fund Priority Areas

Education

The purpose of this fund is to impact student achievement by supporting 501(c)(3) organizations that serve both children and youth, from the time they enter daycare through completion of grade 12, who reside in or attend schools in Cutler Bay. Activities include but are not limited to; out-of-school programs, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, educational field trips, teacher incentive programs, curriculum enhancement/development activities, educational equipment/supplies, personal safety/prevention activities (i.e., anti-bullying, distracted driving awareness, abuse prevention), parenting skills training, life skills training, civic engagement, and college/career preparation.

Aesthetic

The goal of this fund is to support 501(c)(3) organizations that implement programs to enhance the overall safety and anesthetics of our community. Examples include but are not limited to community beautification projects, assistance with code compliance matters for the elderly or low-income residents, graffiti abatement, community message boards, landscaping, community gardening, preserve/enhance green spaces, and/or any other general aesthetic improvements.

Environmental

The Town of Cutler Bay was the first municipality in Miami-Dade County to receive “Certified Silver” designation as a Florida Green Building City. In keeping with our initiative to “Go Green”, the Cutler Bay Community Fund supports 501(c)(3) community programs that promote environmental responsibility. Examples include but are not limited to “green” education and awareness activities, community gardening, recycling, alternative transportation (bicycle, walking programs), conservation, maintenance of environmentally sensitive lands, and/or any other general environmental improvement activity.

Cultural

Culture is represented through art, literature, and music, but mainly through the customs and traditions of a particular nation, people, or other social group. It is the common bond that brings the people of a community together. This Fund aspires to ensure that cultural activities are accessible to all residents regardless of age, ability, or economic status. To this end, 501(c)(3) organizations that provide the following activities will be supported through the Fund; concerts, art in public places, heritage festivals, cultural awareness programs, community festivals, intergenerational activities, artistic performances, monthly cultural displays at Town Hall (Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, etc.), history preservation, and other general cultural activities.

Social Services

The objective of this fund is to support local 501(c)(3) social service agencies for projects that help Cutler Bay residents in need. Examples include but are not limited to; workforce development, healthy living (community bike events, nutrition activities, anti-bullying campaigns, etc.), youth development (support for programs that encourage youth leadership and assists in their transition to adulthood), basic needs (utility assistance, food, and emergency shelter, etc..), outreach efforts, aging in place programs, housing, and other generally defined social services.

Other Philanthropic Programs/Services

The needs of the citizen’s in the Town of Cutler Bay continually evolve. This Fund targets support of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that meet the unforeseen needs of this community or needs that do not fit in any of the other funding priority areas. Examples may include but are not limited to; disaster relief/preparedness, fitness activities, sporting events, healthcare, transportation for the elderly or disabled, efforts that fulfill urgent need in the community, and other generally defined philanthropic services.

Climate Justice & Care for Creation Grant

Allegany Franciscan Ministries is thrilled to announce the grant opportunity in its new priority focus area, Climate Justice & Care for Creation! The general purpose of these grants is to support activities throughout Florida that:

• Educate workers, employers, and the community about the effect of extreme heat on people who work outdoors;
• Educate people about climate gentrification and how it affects low-income communities and communities of color; or
• Develop coalitions that address the effect of extreme heat or climate gentrification.

Funding

Allegany anticipates awarding up to 20 grants ranging between $10,000 and $40,000.

Our Mission

Our mission is to continue and further the philanthropic legacy of Gardner Cowles, Jr. and the Cowles family, which includes promotion of education, social justice, health, and the arts.

The Founder

The Cowles Charitable Trust was first established in 1948 by Gardner “Mike” Cowles, Jr. (1903-1985). Born into the Cowles publishing family of Des Moines, Iowa, Mike was the youngest of Gardner Cowles and Florence Call Cowles’ six children. A newspaper editor and publisher by trade, he was committed to his family’s traditions of responsible, public-spirited, and innovative journalism as well as philanthropy. 

The Cowles Charitable Trust supports the arts, education, the advancement of ethical journalism, medical and climate research.

Presentation Grants Program

Presentation Grants are an opportunity for organizations in South Arts' nine-state region to receive fee support to present Southern guest film directors, visual and performing artists, or writers from outside of the presenter's state. Artist fee support is awarded for:

• film (documentary, fiction, experimental, and animation),
• performing arts (theater, music, opera, musical theater, and dance),
• literary arts (fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry),
• traditional arts, and
• visual arts (crafts, drawing, experimental, painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media).

Projects must include both a public presentation (film screening, performance, reading, or exhibition) and an educational/community engagement component. These grants are limited and very competitive. Based on the artist fee, the maximum request is $9,500 for modern dance and contemporary ballet or $7,500 for other artistic disciplines. 

South Arts is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. We have prioritized this commitment to ensure that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) led organizations, LGBTQIA+ led organizations, and organizations representing persons with disabilities are represented as both applicants and grantees. In addition, we encourage applications for projects that engage BIPOC artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, and artists with disabilities.

Supporting Nonprofits in Northeast Florida

Strengthening nonprofits through grantmaking and other services is critical to our mission of building a better community. In partnership with our donors, we have distributed approximately $600 million in grants across a broad range of programs since our founding in 1964.

Program Support - Putnam County

These grants are available to assist with improving the quality of life in Putnam County by promoting educational opportunities, expanding safety net programs, and promoting the general welfare of Putnam County residents.

Focus Areas

Projects should be serving Putnam County exclusively and address one of the following focus areas. 

Requests can be made for up to $25,000 to:

• Support and expand safety net programs serving Putnam County
• Improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, including Veterans and First Responders with service-related disabilities

Requests can be made for up to $10,000 to:

• Expand access to quality out-of-school time programs for children and youth focused on academic progress, physical well-being, emotional health and related positive youth development areas

Organizations who do not currently have an open grant will be prioritized.

About the Foundation

Jesse W. Couch lived a life of zeal, honor, and dedication to the betterment of his community. The Couch family now humbly stewards the foundation he created to carry on his legacy of service for future generations. We believe that impact is best accomplished through partnerships with local organizations that know the people and communities they serve. We invest in and support efforts to protect the environment, further conservation and preservation initiatives, and save historical architecture that preserves community heritage. We also support initiatives that promote wellness and mental health and organizations seeking to provide and further education for all communities.

The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services and other causes.

The Lawrence Foundation was established in mid-2000. We make both program and operating grants and do not have any geographical restrictions on our grants. Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or other similar organizations are eligible for grants from The Lawrence Foundation.  

Grant Amount and Types

Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.

General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted. In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation Grant

The Foundation will consider requests to support museums, cultural and performing arts programs; schools and hospitals; educational, skills-training and other programs for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities; environmental and wildlife protection activities; and other community-based organizations and programs.

Since its inception in 2016, the Robinson Foundation has sought to demonstrate God’s love through sharing the gifts we have received. Grant Considerations

We take many different aspects of applications into account when making grant issuing decisions, however these are some of the high-level questions we ask ourselves during the process:

• How does the organization serve their key audience goals?
• Is the organization fiscally responsible?
• Will a grant have a tangible, meaningful impact?
• Will we see direct results from this grant?
• Does the organization have other financial contributors?

Bring independent documentary filmmakers to your community for screenings and conversations around powerful stories and the art of filmmaking. Screening Partners are partner organizations that present Southern Circuit screenings, Q&As, and other filmmaker engagements with the community. Screening Partners develop screening audiences through strategic marketing and partnerships. As a group, they participate in the film selection process and discuss programming/marketing strategies for each film. Screening Partners act as hosts to touring filmmakers, providing recommendations for travel, lodging, and dining.

South Arts coordinates filmmaker tours and provides marketing materials for each film. South Arts recognizes the value of filmmaker participation by providing an honorarium for each filmmaker’s tour, with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Screening Partners must be nonprofit, educational, or governmental organizations residing in the South Arts region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). Southern Circuit Screening Partners have included schools, churches, arts centers, municipalities, and other organizations, serving audiences of all ages.

Southern Circuit is invested in partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the South Arts region.

What films are presented?

Southern Circuit prioritizes featuring Southern filmmakers and stories. We are committed to presenting films by filmmakers of color, LGBTQ+ filmmakers, and filmmakers with disabilities. Selected filmmakers should have an ethical relationship with the topics and individuals/communities represented in their work. We are invested in including emerging and first-time filmmakers.

Screening Partners are provided a Southern Circuit Film Guide with potential selections for the season. Screening Partners work together to select six films that will tour to all Screening Partners. The Southern Circuit Film Selection Meeting will be held in June. At least one representative from your organization will be required to participate.

Detailed Program Description

Grants of up to $2,500 for organizations to make arts programs accessible to persons with disabilities.

The Southeast is home to some of the world’s more diverse and vibrant artistic communities. At South Arts, we believe that the arts are for everyone. The arts enrich the lives of people of all abilities and backgrounds. In our commitment to amplifying the success of the Southeast’s arts ecology, South Arts offers micro-funding to supplement the efforts of arts organizations throughout our service area.

Art making is for everyone too! South Arts encourages arts organizations to hire artistic personnel of all abilities at all levels; for these grants in particular, we encourage arts organizations to work directly with artists who identify as disabled. 

Through our partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, South Arts offers small grants that compliment existing efforts by arts organizations to include audiences and artists with disabilities. Accessibility micro-grants are available to support Nonprofit, 501c3, arts organizations located within the South Arts Service region states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This funding program is open to a wide variety of organizations, including community cultural organizations, museums, performing arts presenters, theatre companies, visual arts and music organizations. Priority funding will be given to new applicants to South Arts.

South Arts has prioritized the following:

• South Arts prioritizes applications from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ identifying organizations.
• South Arts prioritizes applications from organizations led by persons with disabilities or organizations that provide significant programming to artists or audiences with disabilities.
• South Arts is committed to funding artists organizations in rural communities (with populations under 50,000).
• Primary consideration will be given to new applicants.

Usage of Funds

Grants awards may reimburse the applicant for any combination of qualifying expenses incurred during the grant period. Projects may include but are not limited to the following:

Programs

• Usage of large print or braille program materials for patrons/audiences with low vision
• Artist/consultant fees to provide accessibility training or audits
• Transportation of constituents or performers with disabilities
• Preparation for special exhibitions (i.e. space modifications or accessibility audit)
• Audio description
• Sign language interpretation
• Website accessibility
• Docent training for visual or audio enhancement
• Consultant fee to develop an overall accessibility plan for your organization
• Inclusive programming
• Staff training to learn about accessibility as it relates to programming, operations, or facilities modifications (i.e. travel to a workshop and/or training)
• Other accommodations that make programs accessible

Facilities Enhancements

• Accessibility signage for exterior and/or interior space
• Modification of restroom(s) signage
• Modification to drinking fountain(s) signage
• Installation of Braille plaques

Museum on Main Street Grant

Funding Amount: Up to $10,000

Florida Humanities is now accepting applications from communities to participate in a 2026-2027 statewide tour of “Americans,” a compelling new traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program. “Americans” offers visitors a chance to explore the presentation and representation of American Indians in broader American culture. It challenges visitors to reconsider their perceptions and consider how Native American imagery and names are woven into the fabric of our nation.

These representations shape what many think and know about American Indians, however, much of the imagery does not reflect the richness and diversity of Native Nations. “Americans” shows that links to Indian culture and history are everywhere and impact us all. The exhibition serves as an essential step towards understanding our history and our shared future, especially as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

Florida Humanities will select five communities to host the exhibit and provide grant funding for the development of public humanities programs and local exhibits that highlight their own connections to Native American culture. “Americans” will tour Florida from August 2026 to June 2027 with each community hosting the exhibit for up to eight weeks each.

Applicants may request up to $10,000 to support the design and implementation of public humanities programming and/ or local exhibitions that complement the themes in the “Americans” exhibit. Public programs should be designed for a broad general public audience and may be presented in-person or virtually. Programming may occur before, during, or after the exhibition is hosted locally. Local exhibitions should examine themes in the Smithsonian exhibit from the perspective of American Indian culture in the local community.
